Save the Bees!

Without bees, it would be impossible for human life. Bees pollinate so many of our plants, and are rapidly dying. If you want to help save the bees, you can do these few things.

Don’t Swat Them!

If a bee flies I to your home, don’t try to kill it! Instead, help it find its way back outside. It won’t sting you if you don’t provoke it.

Fun fact! Bees can recognize human faces!

Don’t use chemicals on your plants!

Many chemicals that are put on your plants can be harmful to bees who are working to help your plants. Use natural products instead of poisonous chemicals.

Fun Fact! Bees pollinate $15 billion a year in crops!

Plant for bees

Bees love certain plants. Some of these plants are:

  • Lavender
  • Thyme
  • Cilantro
  • Borage
  • Geraniums
  • Zinnias

Plant these in your backyard and help the bees! You can also plant:

  • Crocus
  • Snowdrops
  • Aster
  • Fennel
  • Poppy
  • Sunflower
  • Cosmos
  • Corn Flower
  • Echinacea
  • Sage
  • Hollyhock
  • Buttercup
  • Calendula
  • Sweet Asylum
  • Heliotrope

Fun Fact! Bees have been around for 120 billion years!

Bee Bath!

It is hard for bees to drink from water that is deep. If you want to give the bees a refreshing drink, try this!

Partially fill a container with water. Then, put rocks and pebbles inside of it so the bees have a surface to stand on while they take a drink! Or, instead of plain water, you can add in a bit of sugar for the bees.

Fun Fact! Some bees make their hives underground!

Educate

Tell your friends and family! Your not the only one who can help the bees! Not much would happen if you were the only one working. Inform others that you are trying to make a difference, and try to get them to also, even on the smallest ways.

Want to Know More About Bees?

Bees have 3 body parts: head, thorax, and abdomen. They are the shape of an oval and measure about an inch long. Males can look different, sometimes their antennae are longer, or they differ in size. Male bees also have more yellow fur or marks. All bees have 6 legs and black and yellow stripes, although bees can also be black and red or black and orange.

To pollinate, bees go to one flower and collect the pollen by the fuzz on their feet. They then go to the next flower and some of the pollen transfers to that flower which gives the flower nutrients.
